Study X
Is a large scale painting exploring the notion of a technological organism. Referencing Alfred Jarry’s ‘pataphysics’ or the science of imaginary solutions, the project utilises a limited number of symbolic visual fragments to construct a vast mythopoetic narrative around the underlying force of technology. These visual fragments (and accompanying fictions) exist somewhere between ‘the table of elements’ and ‘cartographic indexing’. The painting creates an evolving and amorphous pictorial space drawing on organising principals such as mass/fragment, 45 degree/90 degree, strings/grids, chaos/order etc. producing different structural and compositional manifestations.
